Founded in 1881, the University of Liverpool began as University College Liverpool and gained independent university status via Royal Charter in 1903. As a pioneering “redbrick” civic university and founding member of the Russell Group, it has a rich history of innovation—from early breakthroughs in oceanography, architecture, and biochemistry to modern global research collaborations. Its main urban campus spans approximately 100 acres and includes iconic landmarks like the Victoria Building, plus satellite campuses in Suzhou (China) and London.
