University of Southampton campus

Founded in 1862 as the Hartley Institution, the University of Southampton has grown from a local engineering college into a globally recognized member of the Russell Group of research intensive universities. Over its long history, Southampton played key roles in World War II naval engineering, expanded rapidly post war across multiple campuses (Highfield, Avenue, Boldrewood, National Oceanography Centre, and the Winchester School of Art), and launched international branches—first in Malaysia (2012) and most recently a new campus in India opening in 2025. Today it offers approximately 558 undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is home to around 25,000 students, with roughly 40% international students representing around 130 countries.

With its welcoming and diverse atmosphere, the University of Southampton offers students the chance to thrive both academically and personally. The university is known for its cutting edge research, strong links to industry, and an active student community with hundreds of clubs, societies, and sports teams. Its coastal location gives students access to a vibrant city life as well as beautiful natural surroundings, creating the perfect balance between study and lifestyle. Southampton’s focus on innovation, global collaboration, and hands on learning makes it an ideal choice for students looking for a world class education in a supportive and inspiring environment.
